Misaki Hata 畑岬 (b. 1994)

Hata is a painter working between Japan, Britain and Sweden. Her practice explores the tension between porousness and impermeability: what we absorb, resist, and retain, and how place, people and memory shape our sense of self.

Working with water-mixable oil, she dilutes the paint to build translucent layers that stain, seep and bleed, dissolving forms into their surroundings so that the self becomes landscape, and landscape becomes self.
